The City by the Bay (:

This week, I thought we would take it back to the United States. We're heading to... SAN FRANCISCO! I've only been once before. I can remember it exactly. I was in the fourth grade. I went over April break and I had a fabulous time ... but ... I got food poisoning the Friday before we were supposed to leave. Needless to say, I was sick the entire trip. Boo :(

The reason we went out was because at the time, my aunt had relocated to San Francisco for a job offer. We wanted to visit her... and .... ya know, see the city.

WARNING: I am going to share pictures of my trip while I was there. Remember I was only ten years old. Just keep that in mind.

This is a picture from when we visited the Ghirardelli Chocolate and Ice Cream Company. San Francisco is known for their Ghirardelli Chocolate and Ice Cream. Needless to say, it was the best ice cream sundae I have ever had in my entire life. I speak the truth. If you ever visit there, trust me. TRY IT!!!

This next picture is when we visited Alcatraz Island. For those of you who don't know, Alcatraz Island was a federal prison from 1933 to 1963. It is located 1.5 miles offshore from San Francisco. It was home to some of the country's most high profile criminals. You must be wondering why we're wearing headphones? Well, while you're on the tour, you wear headphones and you have an audio tour guide. A person shows you where to go but all the information is given while listening to the headphones.

This picture was taken in the park right in front of the infamous Painted Ladies. The Painted Ladies are a row of Victorian houses who are created using three colors. They all resemble one another. For those of you who were obsessed with Full House as much as I was, you'll recognize this. They are the houses you see in the opening credits. Also, the park that I am standing in is the exact park in the credits in which they are having a picnic. Pretty cool, right?!?!

This was MY FIRST TIME EVER AT THE PACIFIC OCEAN!!! It was also my only time at the Pacific Ocean considering I have never been back. It was beautiful. The weather there is amazing. Even in April, when you see the ocean, you have a sudden urge to jump in and start swimming. I really wish I did that!!! Like how cool would that have been?

Well, if I was to share every picture I took with you, we would be here for days. I will post some additional pictures below to show you a couple other places I visited that I did not mention above. I hope you enjoyed this post.

Movie Review: What's Eating Gilbert Grape

This week, we are taking a break from our usual journey. I know this is not usually what I write about, but I need to share with all of you a movie I think is well worth watching. That movie would be none other than "What's Eating Gilbert Grape".

Usually, this wouldn't be the type of movie I would watch. I tend to have a certain genre that I usually watch and this movie isn't it. But, my Creative Writing teacher put this on for us off of Netflix. Watching this movie, I found myself obsessed with the acting and just the whole plot of the movie. I came home that first day and finished the entire movie.

Let me share with you a little about this movie...

This movie stars Johnny Depp as Gilbert Grape and Leonardo DiCaprio as Arnie. Gilbert is in a family where his father died and to deal with her depression, his mother gained a lot of weight. Gilbert has two sisters and a brother Arnie who has a mental condition. When his father died, Gilbert was forced to step up to the plate and become the man of the house. Gilbert also takes on the responsibility of caring for Arnie. Halfway through the movie, Gilbert meets a girl named Becky who is passing through the town. Gilbert takes a liking to Becky. Becky also accepts Arnie unlike the others in the town who point fingers and laugh.

At one point in the movie, we find out the meaning behind the title "What's Eating Gilbert Grape". Gilbert tells Becky what he wants. He wants his mother to take fitness classes, he wants Arnie to be given a normal brain, and he wants his youngest sister to grow up. Throughout the movie, the youngest sister battles her family and argues with Gilbert and Arnie a lot.

I won't spoil the ending for you... Soooo.... GO WATCH IT!!!!!

I promise you will not be disappointed. You have my word.

P.S. I have to commend Leonardo DiCaprio on his acting. He did an outstanding job playing the role of one who is mentally disabled. He deserves several rounds of applause.
